Finding top talent for your business is essential as it influences your business in many ways. Talent acquisition was one of my most challenging duties as a senior corporate human resources executive for 20+ years. Now as a small business owner, I continue to realize that finding the right talent allows us to bring in needed skillsets and knowledge that we as owners might not yet possess. It also allows us to grow our businesses while contributing to the company dynamic and blossoming culture that may already exist.

With that in mind, here are five talent acquisition tips for your business in 2023.

Talent Acquisition

Know Where The Staffing Gaps Are

Examine all aspects of your business and strategies for current and near-future goals. Stay focused on must-haves vs. nice-to-have positions and

ensure these goals are at the forefront of everything you do throughout your recruitment process. It’s important to maintain sight of your business plans and goals so that you are bringing on staff that will be able to contribute to your business’s goals and successes.

Consider speaking to those who already are or will be working alongside people who will be in these roles and find out what might be lacking or needed within the department. The more information you have before beginning the talent acquisition process, especially in job descriptions, the better your chances of finding the right talent for your business.

Get The Job Advertisement Right

When it comes to the job advertisement, you want to ensure you’ve gotten it right. Consider what you must incorporate into the job ad to attract the right people. Assess the performance of your prior job advertisements. You might have found in the past that not all of your job ads have garnered the right type of candidates. The better your job ad, the better the ROI of your ad dollars, and the less likely you’ll have to start the entire process again.

Work with Talent Acquisition Agencies

If you want to improve your recruitment efforts, look at outsourcing to a talent acquisition agency. These are specialists within specific fields of the job industry, and if you’re looking for someone with a particular talent, chances are, they’re going to find them for you.

Having an agency to help with the recruitment process is a great way to alleviate some of the stress and challenges of hiring new talent, especially if that talent is in a high-level job position or requires a hard o find skillset.

Improve Your Culture and Work Dynamic

Think about your company culture and work dynamic currently. What could a new staff member bring to the table? They may be able to positively change and influence the company culture for the better, so it’s essential that you’re considering the person’s personality, for example, and other attributes, not just whether or not they can do the job on day one, or remind you of a family member, etc. Diversity of thoughts and experiences are critical components in a thriving business environment.

Consider Offering Flexible Working Arrangements

Flexible working arrangements are a valuable perk, and many candidates now expect them. If you can offer flexible working arrangements within your business, it’s worth doing where possible.

These tips will help you find your top talent this year, and for future recruitment initiatives, you may engage in in the coming years.
