If you are knee-deep in building a business, there are likely days where you feel like you’re furiously paddling to the surface but never quite breaking the water to catch your breath. The thing is, there will always be more to get done, always new tasks to complete and new people to hire and train. Trying to get everything done, especially without help can lead to complete burnout, which is the least healthy thing that you could imagine happening.

Avoiding burnout

Avoiding burnout has to be just as much of a priority in your life as you reaching your goals is. As women, we have a knack for wanting to be the best at everything and we take it to heart when we have to admit that we can’t do it all solo. So, how do you avoid burnout? Here’s how to do it:

Say No

Every now and then, you need to learn to say no to the people asking for your help. The most important way to stop burn out is to learn to say no every now and then. “No!” is a complete statement. Yes, your business is important, but do you know what else is important? Sleep. A hot meal. Relaxing. All of these self-care items are going to be better for you than saying yes to everyone and anyone who asks you for something. You’re a business leader; learn to take on what benefits you, but doesn’t destroy you.

Outsource

Having to delegate work outside of your business walls can have you feeling like a failure, but it isn’t. It’s not a failure to know where your weaknesses are and admit to them. As a matter of fact, this is a strength that you need to draw on. Getting some tasks off your list and your budget can give you the chance to stay focused on what matters the most.

Schedule

It’s not the same as automation, but you need to schedule in as many tasks as you can. If you send sales emailers, you need to schedule them in the same way you would your social media posts. Find an app that works for you or do it the old fashion way, paper and pen, but get control of your schedule. And yes, don’t neglect to schedule time for you, too! Avoiding burnout is the goal.

Burnout? It doesn’t benefit you or anyone else. Know your limits and play to them and you’ll find success comes easier. And you’ll likely live a happier, longer life.
