Here’s Why More Family Outdoor Time Is A Must

Years ago, it was very commonplace to find families spending a great deal of time outdoors. Before technology overtook our lives, most kids were drawn to the adventures available to them outside as opposed to inside. There wasn’t a lot to do inside, but when you got outdoors, anything and everything was possible! Modern conveniences have changed many things in our lives, good and not so good, including family activities. On the plus side, because of technological advances, many parents have the option to work from home now, and that’s often a good thing. However, at the same time, the kids are more inclined to stay indoors, playing on their games, watching television, using iPads, etc. There are significant advantages that come with the many gadgets that we have access to now that didn’t exist 25 years ago. It’s essential however in this fast-paced world that families not only spend quality time together but that they explore the fun and healthy options that exist outdoors.

Family Outdoor Time

Get Some Fresh Air

First of all, when your family stays inside all of the time, you’re missing out on getting fresh air. Fresh air is not only good for your physical health, but for your mental as well. It helps you to feel energized and motivated. When you’re stuck inside all day every day, it impacts your mindset. At the same time, when you’re spending more time outdoors, you’re able to take in more vitamin D from the sun, which is vital for many things, including the health of our bones.

Taking A Break

We all need a break from the routines of life. When you’re working inside all of the time or your children are stuck continuously to their devices, it has an impact on everyone’s physical and mental health. Eye strain is an issue, as well as the effect that gadgets can have on our ability to have genuine, face-to-face interactions with people.

Have Some Fun

Unwind and have some fun for a change! There’s so much you can do outside that you can’t do inside. Like run, and play, especially for the kids, who are increasingly at risk for obesity. Adults, get to take in some lovely views and enjoy the weather, regardless of the season. Be adventurous and try your hand at some outdoor toys and games, too! Have you ever considered dirt bikes:gas vs. electric? How about outdoor grilling for a change of pace?

Slow It Down

If you’re always on the go, and always seem to be “on” rather than “off,” then getting outside is a must for you. There’s something about the outdoors that causes you to dial it back a bit more. By stopping and smelling the roses, it can boost your mood, increase the calmness of the mind calm, allowing you to have greater clarity to put things into proper perspective overall.

Learning About Nature

And, of course, there’s also an educational aspect to this too. Take away access to the Internet, and there isn’t a great deal of access to knowledge indoors anymore. Minus reading a book and how many families are really having dedicated reading time? However, when you get outside and explore, there’s so much that you can uncover and learn about – particular when it comes to nature. So head out on a nature walk, have some fun, slow down a little and just enjoy this beautiful earth that we have at our disposal.

Ready, set, here’s to more family outdoor time!
