Beyoncé Drops “Break My Soul” and Here’s How I See It

Late Monday night, just as the Juneteenth holiday weekend was coming to a close, Queen Bey, aka Beyonce, released “Break My Soul,” the first cut from her next album, “Renaissance,” which is due to drop on July 29. A great start to my birthday weekend I must say. I can’t wait.

No, I’m not a member of the infamous BeyHive, but I love watching women be great while inspiring other women to do the same, and in my opinion, she does just that.

Beyonce Knowles Carter Break My Soul

One thing is for sure, the minute I heard the song, I had a flashback to my club days in NYC. It was clear that she had sampled Robin S.’s 1993 hit, “Show Me Love,” which remains one of my favorites to this day.

Truthfully, you will hear remnants of yesterday’s music in most of today’s songs. However, to pick up on it and not declare something current to be an original, you have to know a lil sumthin’ sumthin’ about yesterday’s music. Oh, the many times I had those conversations with my kids when they were growing up. Can you relate?

Admittedly, I started my exercise routine today by listening to the song again. Not only is the beat motivating, but so are the lyrics.
“YOU WON’T BREAK MY SOUL. I’m tellin’ everybody.”

MY QOTD: How often have you felt overwhelmed by circumstances, people, places, and things that left you feeling like you were at your wit’s end? How often have you spoken those words or similar ones to keep from crumbling, exploding, or giving up?
[Verse 1: Beyoncé]
Now, I just fell in love, and I just quit my job
I’m gonna find new drive, damn, they work me so damn hard
Work by nine, then off past five
And they work my nerves, that’s why I cannot sleep at night.

[Pre-Chorus: Beyoncé] Motivation
I’m lookin’ for a new foundation, yeah
And I’m on that new vibration
I’m buildin’ my own foundation, yeah

All of this long before Bey dropped this cut, yet there are yahoos on social media accusing her of recklessly encouraging folks to quit their jobs. What in the entire %!#*?

Frankly, there are individuals out there who, if they witnessed a woman walking on water, would say it was because she couldn’t swim.
I beg to differ with those critics/haters and view this all as a reminder that life is short, so make sure you’re living the life that you desire. As she is doing – but that level of power, determination, and confidence really intimidate some.

Sis, you were dealt a hand of cards; now PLAY THEM! If you want something different, sometimes you have to do something different.
I regularly encourage clients to UPGRADE UNAPOLOGETICALLY, BUT to DO IT WISELY AND WITH INTENTION.

An article I wrote nearly six years ago titled LIFE AFTER 9-5: TRANSITIONING FROM YOUR CAREER TO YOUR CALLING is an example of that.

It’s only Tuesday, and already there are those trying to break our souls – don’t let them!

Today is a good day to “Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.”

And, of course, when you get a chance, check out “Break My Soul.” If you’re like me and like dance music, I think you’ll like it.

Is Beyonce’s new single the theme song for “The Great Resignation”?

Let me know in the comments.

A very well written synopsis highlighting Beyonce’ and her yet to be released music…
regarding today’s employment environment, where quite a few young folk are totally taken aback by today’s work environment & managements out of date, “my way or the highway,” business model. It’s literally making the younger folk seek better options without the stress. So keep telling it the way it is Jacqueline Dujour. I like your style. 😄
