Workplace Wake Up Call : Every One of Us is Replaceable

The days of working for one company your entire life and retiring with a secure pension have gone the way of the VCR.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2014 the median number of years that workers had been with their current employer was estimated at 4.6 years. This means that employees today could possibly change their jobs eight or more times before they retire. In other words, job security has given way to job insecurity.

I’m a former Human Resources exec who has witnessed the devastation of corporate downsizing and eventually became the victim of it. It was the best thing that could have happened to me, seeing as I am NOW living my best life being my own boss.

I aspire to inspire other Moms who want to be the stilettos in a room full of flats. Reconnecting Moms with the dreams that at some point were put on the back burner, because they believe they can not pursue their dreams and be a great Mom.

I was once that Mom, living a golden life, but a slave to the golden handcuffs of the corner office, the expense accounts and a host of other great benefits – AND I WAS MISERABLE!

I thankfully left that life and haven’t looked back since. I realized that In order to authentically encourage my children to follow their dreams, I had to be living my own. I’m doing just that now and this happy entrepreneur is loving her new life!

So what’s your REAL plan for you and your family’s future, or are you one of those who thinks he/she is irreplaceable? What would you do if your job suddenly came to an end tomorrow?

You are the master of your own destiny. Take that leap and begin living your best life, if becoming an entrepreneur is something you have always dreamed of. But know this- it’s not for everyone and it takes planning and a ton of work. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. At a minimum, have a strong backup plan in place. Be prepared for the unexpected by creating your own golden parachute. The reality is this- Corporate’s may never come.

Can you relate? Do you have a similar story to share? Can anyone else here relate? Feel free to share this with a friend who thinks she is irreplaceable.
