Self-Care – 5 Ways To Relax After A Stressful Work Day

Your entire life shouldn’t revolve around your work, even if you are an entrepreneur who is running a successful business. The stress that comes with being a high-achieving woman requires us all to implement some form of self-care in our lives. Relaxing and experiencing quiet timeout is extremely beneficial to your physical and mental health. If you aren’t getting enough downtime, stress can cause a plethora of serious health conditions.

When your life seems to be a whirlwind of activity, it can be difficult to turn the on switch off once you get home from the office or pause your work-at-home operations. If so, some of the following ideas may help you unwind so that you can experience the self-care that you need and deserve.

Curb Your Hours

If you are working late every evening, you are minimizing the time available to spend relaxing at home. Effective time management skills are necessary to ensure that late nights are more of the exception than the rule. Leaving the office at a reasonable time should be the goal, and proper planning of your tasks and delegating a few will factor into your ability to do so.

Drink Herbal Tea

Herbal teas can help to relax your mind, as well as prepare the body and mind for sleep. Chamomile is a popular sleeping aid, so it may be worth sipping a cup of this delicious beverage about an hour or so before you go to bed.

Watch Some TV

You shouldn’t feel guilty about watching TV, especially if you have been working hard all day. Whether you’re a Real Housewife, or Grey’s Anatomy watcher, or an undercover fan of Angel Beats and Black Mirror, the choice is yours. However, it’s probably not wise to watch anything work-related, or shows with a lot of violence, especially right before bed. Choose something that will give your brain a complete break.

Enjoy A Bubble Bath

You can also unwind by taking a long, hot bubble bath. Try products that contain essential oils as these will give off a great, relaxing fragrance. To help you relax even further, you may want to take a book with you or some relaxing music. Beware- you could quickly lose track of hours when you are relaxing so make sure you don’t let the water get too cold.

Leave Your Phone Out Of The Bedroom

Getting a good night’s sleep is a must in order to get your body to relax. Therefore, make sure that you leave your phone out of your bedroom or turn it off completely. If you have notifications on your phone, this will only serve as a distraction. In addition, the blue light emitted from the screen can interfere with your ability to sleep through the night.

High-achieving women work hard and they play hard. How about designing a life that also allows you to relax hard, too? Ready? Set? Unwind and make room for more relaxation and calm in your life. Guilt-free!
